The Jamaican Stock Exchange is to Bring Cryptocurrency Trading to its Platform

By Jamie Green – Crypto Dealer

The Jamaican Stock Exchange (JSE) has disclosed the signing of a historic Master Agreement with the prominent Canadian FinTech company, Blockstation, to enable live trading of crypto assets and security tokens on its platform. This will be one of the first stock exchanges to offer this service to buy and sell cryptocurrency in a regulated and secure environment.

Blockstation will provide an end-to-end digital asset trading platform for the stock exchange network with compliant listing, trading, clearing and settlement of cryptocurrencies and security tokens. Users to the JSE will have access to buying Bitcoin which includes the whole ecosystem of investors, depositories, regulators and broker-dealers. These members participated in the successful live-trading pilot which concluded in the completion of the Master Agreement.

JSE believes this is a unique opportunity to diversify their product offering to attract new listings and potential investment. Many cryptocurrency projects may use the platform to list their token as currently they have been restricted to cryptocurrency exchanges. This will allow more opportunities for users to buy and sell Bitcoin.

The platform is yet to go live and is starting with a limited pilot to trade Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) through the JSE. The partnership has not yet disclosed which coins are scheduled for listing, but users could hope to buy XRP, Ethereum and Litecoin along with the other major cryptocurrencies through the platform.

JSE is one of the first stock exchanges that hopes to offer cryptocurrency trading through its regulated platform for users looking for a secure and trusted environment for buying crypto. We could see other stock exchanges soon following the JSE’s initiative into crypto assets.
