What is Energy Web Token (EWT)?

The Energy Web community is the most extensive open-source ecosystem devoted to decentralized technology and the energy transition. EW-DOS (Energy Web Decentralized Operating System) is an open-source blockchain-based, multi-layer digital infrastructure. EW-DOS contributes to global energy sector decarbonization in two ways:

  1. Improving the value (and thus supply) of renewable energy
  2. Facilitating the process of integrating and controlling fleets of emissions-free distributed energy resources (DERs)

EW-DOS allows every asset and player in the energy sector to build a decentralized identifier (DID) and provides an uniform digital protocol for establishing identity, rights, and connections across the energy value chain to enable various use cases at scale. It allows users to manage and remotely operate their electrical infrastructure.

In June 2019, Energy Web Chain was established. One of the key benefits of EWT is that it allows businesses to construct totally customized decentralized apps. While other blockchains, like as Ethereum, offer this variety, Energy Web Chain was specifically created for the energy sector. Modern scalability and data safety are made possible by the Energy Web Chain since it was created with enterprise use in mind.

There are more than 25 different projects being developed within the Energy Web across different continents. For more information about these projects and their roadmaps, visit: https://www.energyweb.org/project-map/

Team

Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and Grid Singularity (GSy) collaborated on the Energy Web Token project.

One of the top names in energy-related research and development is Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI). RMI has taken part in numerous ground-breaking energy projects as a renowned think tank. RMI sought to use the decentralized potential of blockchain technology to empower actors in the energy sector to create new decentralized solutions, thus it built the Energy Web Chain.

The project benefited from the blockchain expertise of Grid Singularity (GSy). GSy was the driving force behind the development of the Energy Web Chain as a blockchain developer. GSy was a crucial component for the introduction of EWT because it included renowned specialists, core Ethereum blockchain developers, seasoned energy executives, and energy regulators.

Key Leadership members include:

  • Mani Hagh Sefat – CTO
  • Walter Kok – Strategic Advisor
  • Jesse Morris – Chief Executive Officer
  • Raffaella Piraino – Chief Financial Officer

Roadmap

Consortia Chain

Users will use Energy Web Tokens and technology from the Polkadot (DOT) and Kusama (KSM) Ecosystems to access the new Chain and parachains.

Introducing Energy Web to the Multiverse

  • Launching additional blockchains and experimenting with them will maintain Energy Web at the cutting edge of innovation
  • Generate revenue by selling decentralized services to users in different ecosystems
  • Try out cutting-edge cryptography in a setting that is conducive to business

Where to Store Energy Web Token (EWT)

MetaMask is a well-known browser wallet extension that is well-liked by developers and well-known among DeFi platforms as a convenient way to keep your $EWT secure. If you wish to conduct transactions or use software or smart contracts that are installed on the Energy Web Chain main network, this is a perfect option.

You can also store Energy Web Tokens on the ERC-20 network supporting wallets and bridge them back to EW chain at any time.

For a safe offline storage solution, we recommend using the leading hardware wallet providers Ledger and Trezor.
