What is EOS (EOS)?

EOS is the native cryptocurrency to the EOSIO network. EOS was initially designed with the purpose of allowing developers to create decentralized apps (also known as DApps for short). The project had the initial goal to make it as straightforward as possible for programmers to embrace blockchain technology. They also wanted to ensure that the network is simpler to use than rivals. Because of this, the tools and a range of educational resources have been provided to support developers who want to build functional DApps quickly. The EOSIO network aims to be very fast and efficient, highly configurable in that it is valuable for the creation and management of programmable architectures, and is built heavily on security and compliance to enable superior data integrity.

EOS has additional aims for the eventual improvement of the experience for users and businesses. Whilst the project attempts to deliver greater security and reduced friction for the consumers, it also strives to unlock flexibility and compliance for enterprises. EOS has the capacity to accommodate the requirements needed by a substantial number of DApp. EOS can do this even if they were being used by substantial numbers of people. Parallel execution and modular approach are said to drive this efficiency.

Team

Block.one was the company that initially developed EOS with its white paper being authored by Daniel Larimer and Brendan Blumer.

Both Daniel and Brendan continue to remain as members of Block.one’s executive team, with Blumer serving as CEO and Daniel Larimer as CTO.

Blumer is to begin with, a serial entrepreneur. One of his initial ventures was being involved in the selling of virtual assets for video games. He then went on to co-found Okay.com which is digitally focused real estate agency based in Hong Kong.

Daniel Larimer is a software programmer who started a series of various crypto ventures. They consist of the crypto trading platform BitShares and the Steem blockchain.

Roadmap

This outline of the vision for EOSIO™ represents directional areas where the project wants to continually explore and drive the advancement of the software in close cooperation with the crypto community over the coming years.

Scalability: More apps, more users

One of the goals of the project is to be one of the most high-performing blockchains in the world with industry-leading transaction speeds and with minimal block confirmation times.

Developers: Better tooling, faster app development

The adoption of the platform for application development has been key in the project’s success. Improvement to the developer experience by adding new tools and libraries for developers building applications on EOSIO™ based blockchains is an area that the project continues to focus on.

Users: Greater security, less friction

Ease of use for end users will be the key aspect that drives adoption for blockchain applications. Going forward, the project has committed themselves to advancing the art of how authenticators, applications, and the blockchain interact to deliver a secure and accessible user experience.

Enterprise: Greater flexibility, better compliance

As the continuing adoption by enterprise level applications proceeds, so does the commitment to delivering protocol upgrades that will enhance the flexibility of consensus protocols and the security, and integrity of the data stored on EOSIO™ blockchains.
