Ethereum Name Service (ENS)

Official Website: https://ens.domains/

What is Ethereum Name Service (ENS)?

The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) Token has been introduced as a means for decentralised naming of wallets, websites and more. The service is part of the Ethereum (ETH) Network and allows users to create their web3 username. Different to a sandboxed username, you can own your username selecting and avatar and other profile data for use across services.

ENS addresses the issue of multiple address and having to copy and paste each time to received assets. Your ENS name can be used to store all your addresses and receive any cryptoassets, token or NFT by just using the name.

Decentralised websites can also be launched using the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) for censorship-resistance. This allows for any interested to set up their own website, reducing many maintenance or start-up costs associated with a website. The native name suffix for ENS is .eth, providing all the security benefits of a native blockchain. User may still use Ethereum Name Service with DNS name such as .com, .org, .io and more. ENS itself is classified as a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO), which means the company runs autonomously on its own, without an entity or organisation. This can create a trust-less network encouraging those to participate.

Team

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) started at the Ethereum Foundation in early 2017, separating with a Singapore-based organisation in 2018, True Names LTD. Development of the network is managed by the non-profit which is an internet infrastructure that belongs to the community.
