What is Flow (FLOW)?

A new generation of games, apps, and the digital assets that fuel them will be built on Flow, a quick, decentralized, and developer-friendly blockchain. It is built on a distinct, multi-role architecture and is intended to expand without sharding, enabling significant increases in speed and throughput while maintaining an environment that is developer-friendly and ACID-compliant.The only layer-one blockchain that was first developed by a team that continually provided excellent user blockchain experiences is called Flow: NBA Top Shot, Dapper Wallet, and CryptoKitties.

FLOW token

The FLOW token ("FLOW"), which acts as the Flow network's native money, is the cornerstone of a brand-new, inclusive, and international digital economy. If Flow is the digital infrastructure, then $FLOW token represents the force that propels the network. FLOW is the term used to describe the funding required for the network and all applications developed upon it. For the entire Flow economy, FLOW is meant to function as both a medium of exchange and a long-term reserve asset. The token is used by customers, developers, and validators to participate in the FLOW network and get rewards. It is also used to make payments and participate in protocol governance in the future.

The Flow ecosystem

The only blockchain that incorporates usability enhancements into the protocol layer is Flow, which was built from the ground up for mass adoption. Leading companies and developers have already built on Flow to make it possible to create fresh experiences with excellent content. The diversified ecosystem of Flow is made up of leading entertainment corporations, development studios, and venture-backed startups. The flow ecosystem includes partners including Warner Music, Ubisoft, the NBA, and the UFC as well as other international IP firms. Opensea is another noteworthy venture among the emerging group of high-growth companies.

  • Multi-role architecture: The network can scale to serve billions of users on Flow without sharding or diminishing decentralization of consensus thanks to the design of the network, which is unique.

  • Resource-oriented programming: Cadence, a simple and secure programming language for crypto assets and apps, is used to create smart contracts on Flow.

  • Ergonomics for developers: This network is built for those who want to create useful goods for the community, from upgradeable smart contracts to the Flow Emulator.

  • Consumer onboarding: Flow was created with the general public in mind, and its payment onramps make switching from fiat to cryptocurrency a secure and frictionless process.

Team

The original developer of Flow blockchain, Cryptokitties, Dapper, and NBA Top Shot was Dapper Labs. Dapper Labs, a company founded in 2018, leverages blockchain technology to provide individuals all over the world new ways to engage with the internet. Blockchain-enabled applications have the ability to improve consumer-company interactions, offer people a real stake in the communities they support, and create new opportunities for consumers to become creators.

Roadmap

  • Flow Developer Preview/Smart Contract Emulator - To enable the creation of smart contracts without having access to a full network instance, emulator software was released. NBA Top Shot was started using this by Dapper Labs.

Date: December 2019

  • Flow MVP - One instance of each node processes the entire transaction cycle.

Date: January 2020

  • Dev Portal - introducing new devs to Cadence through a hackathon
  • Multi-Node - There are numerous nodes for each role, enabling simple transactions to travel fully around the network.

Date: March 2020

  • Full Happy Path - Complete environment for consensus and execution (without slashing)

Date April 2020

  • Beta Mainnet v0.1 - Beginning with the NBA collectable experience and related NFTs, the beta mainnet is hosting smart contracts and dapps that are in use and using real user data.

Date: June 2020

  • Open Source Licensing - A public open-source license is used to publish the complete node implementation.
  • Token Generation Event - In anticipation of distribution to pre-launch investors and a community sale on CoinList, Dapper Labs mints and holds the FLOW token.

Date: September 2020

  • Validator Rewards - To participate in the network and get benefits, node operators must stake a certain number of tokens. Holders of tokens can assign tasks to particular operators in order to share in the profits. Up until the Slashing methods have been checked for false positives, the Slashing Rate is set to 0%.

Date: November 2020

Where to store Flow (FLOW)

An alternative wallet provider for Flow token holders can be Trust Wallet – a multi-currency mobile wallet that enables users to simultaneously store a variety of digital assets in one place. Popular among traders and gamers, the beginner friendly mobile wallet may be appropriate for users looking for a convenience and accessible app, with trusted security and backup options.

Similarly, a user-friendly option to keep your $FLOW secure can include MetaMask, a leading browser wallet extension popular amongst DeFi platforms and highly praised by developers. Users can integrate with the network’s Liquidity Mining pools by connecting your MetaMask wallet.

A great option to keep your Flow tokens secure and offline can therefore include the leading hardware wallet provider Ledger.
