Blockchain.com Wallet Guide

Wallet Provider: Blockchain.com

Official Website: https://www.blockchain.com/

Compatible Operating Systems: Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android & IOS.

Description: The Blockchain wallet is a digital wallet that enables users to store and manage their crypto assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Blockchain Wallet is provided by Blockchain, a software company founded by Peter Smith and Nicolas Cary. A blockchain wallet permits transfers in cryptocurrencies and the capability to convert them back into a user's local currency.

Supported Cryptocurrencies:  The current supported cryptocurrencies, which can be received to, sent from, and stored in the Blockchain.com Wallet, are: bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), ether (ETH), stellar (XLM), USD Digital (USD-D), which was previously referred to as USD PAX, and Tether (USDT). Please make sure you do not send any other cryptocurrencies to Blockchain.com Wallet addresses; those funds will not be accessible if you do.

Step 1: Sign up on Blockchain.com

Head over to the Blockchain.com website and click the sign up box at the top.

You will then be presented with screen below. Proceed as instructed by filling out the boxes with the relevant information (email, password etc.).

Step 2: Verify Your Email Address

Once you have entered your email address and password for your wallet you will be asked to verify your email address.

You will need to go into the mailbox of the email address you used and find the verification email.

Once you have confirmed your email address, you can then close the tab that it takes you to and return to the original log in page.

You can now log in using the password that you set. You may need to authorise the browser you are using. Blockchain will prompt you if this is needed and would be completed via email similar to the email verification previously mentioned.

Step 3: Using Your Wallet

Once logged in, you will be presented with the main dashboard as shown below.

This is the main page from which you can manage your assets.

Clicking on one of the coins on the left-hand side will bring up the transaction history for that coin. Here you can see the transactions you have sent and received to and from the wallet.

Step 4: Sending and Receiving

You can send and receive cryptocurrency by clicking on the ‘Send’ tab at the top if you want to send and ‘Request’ if you want to receive cryptocurrency.

If you want to send any coin, then you can use this send feature. The box labelled ‘To’ is where the wallet address for the wallet you are sending to is entered. You can then enter the amount of coin you want to send.

Please note the fee is also customizable but be mindful that a low fee will risk a longer transaction time and even the transaction being rejected. It is best to use the recommended fee shown at the time.

To receive cryptocurrency into your wallet, you will need to click ‘Request’. This will display your wallet address for the coin selected. The coin selected can be changed by clicking on the drop-down menu and then selecting the coin you want to receive.

You will then need to give whoever is sending the coin your wallet address. It is strongly advised that you do this by copy and pasting it.

Blockchain has a feature that allows you to copy the wallet address to your clipboard, it is the small box with the paper icon in it next to the wallet address. Clicking this copies the wallet address displayed to your clipboard.

Blockchain Wallet Overview

Advantages

•    Very simple to use
•    User friendly interface
•    Dashboard feature makes a great portfolio manager

Disadvantages

•    Limited number of supported coins
•    Authorization of browser could be confusing to tech illiterate users
•    Bugs have been experienced which can slow down the process but has no effect on the balances

Conclusion

Blockchain.com is a great wallet to use for the coins it supports. It is very easy to use as the technical jargon is kept to a minimum so any kind of user can use it with ease.

The limited availability of supported assets can be viewed as a drawback as other wallets do offer substantially more coins than Blockchain. However, if you were only purchasing and storing BTC or ETH, then it is a great wallet due to its simple nature and the fact that there are not a huge number of coins to confuse the user.
