What Is Horizen (ZEN)?

Horizen is a network of blockchains that supports zero knowledge and is supported by the largest node infrastructure in the sector. The Zendoo system, which leverages SNARK-verification and offers complete freedom in sidechain type, consensus, speed, and privacy, enables blockchain interoperability. With a throughput cap of 10,000,000 TPS, the network now supports up to 10,000 sidechains and offers huge scalability for cryptographic chain verification.

Horizen is transformed into a permissionless blockchain network by Zendoo. Using a number of SDKs, developers can integrate their blockchains into the ecosystem. IOHK's provably secure Ouroboros proof-of-stake protocol is used by the first set of SDKs, Blaze and Latus, to deploy blockchains. While Latus uses a recursive SNARK composition for complete decentralization, Blaze enables high-speed chains that can run up to 1,000 TPS and announce their own certifiers. The following batch of SDKs will support Ethereum smart contracts by integrating EVM. ZEN can be staked to participate in Horizen's nearly 50,000 full node network.

Horizen is renowned for its competence in blockchain technology based on zero knowledge. Their team has made numerous strides in the field of cryptography, including the introduction of one of the first zero-knowledge-based scalability solutions and their Ginger-Lib zero-knowledge privacy tool library.

Their blockchain network offers a special sidechain solution that enables programmers to create their own scalable blockchains that can support tens of thousands of transactions per second while preserving genuine decentralization across tens of thousands of nodes. Additionally, Horizen provides special add-on privacy capabilities.

Horizen is a completely decentralized blockchain ecosystem with zero-knowledge capabilities that enables enormous scalability and customizable privacy features. Zendoo, a sidechain solution offered by Horizen, enabling the creation of thousands of separate sidechains that talk to the mainchain and one another.

Network nodes verify blockchain transactions, which needs a lot of computational power. Because of this, the majority of blockchain networks have a limit on the quantity of transactions they can handle at once. However, Horizen developers can manage up to 10 million transactions per second across all sidechains while running more than 10,000 distinct blockchains concurrently (an average TPS of 1,000 per chain). This is partly attributable to Horizen's node network, which is one of the biggest and most dispersed in the sector. This allows them to totally decentralize their network while yet maintaining a high throughput for network-wide transactions.

With programs like Zen Improvement Proposals and the Horizen Community Council, Horizen is already decentralized on a technological level and is working toward being completely decentralized on a governance level. To standardize the process of recommending significant modifications to the Horizen ecosystem and code base, Horizen uses the ZenIP process.

Team

  • Rob Viglione - Co-founder & Team Lead

In addition to being a co-founder and team leader of the Zen Blockchain Foundation, Rob Viglione serves as the CEO and co-founder of Horizen Labs. He has an MBA in Finance and Marketing, a Ph.D. in Finance, and a Bachelor's degree in Physics and Applied Mathematics. He has served as a consultant for Aave, HeroEngine, and the U.S. Air Force, among other organizations.

  • Rolf Versluis - Co-founder & Executive Advisor

Rolf runs a medium-sized mining operation and has experience as a business owner in the IT sector. Rolf adds leadership, managerial, and technical operational knowledge to the Zen group. He has past experience with Cisco Systems, the semiconductor business, and as a nuclear-trained officer in the US Submarine force.

  • Alberto Garoffolo - Engineering Director

With more than 15 years of experience, Alberto has developed a strong foundation in various languages, including Java, C, and C++, and has comprehensive knowledge of software design and development in many application sectors. He served as a new company's CTO in recent years, creating the software architecture and assembling the team to produce one of the most comprehensive video engagement solutions available.

  • Rosario Pabst - Director Product & Engineering

Rosario began her career as an officer in the American Air Force, where she developed her leadership skills by overseeing sizable technical teams and creating R&D satellite software systems. She switched to blockchain in 2017 and was a member of the Horizen's founding team. She has now developed competence in creating multinational teams and creating blockchain products.

  • Lucy Wang - VP of Marketing

Lucy is a marketing and business owner with more than 12 years of experience in a range of industries. At a young age, she left her home in a rural coastal mountain region of China to embark on a more than ten-year journey through Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the US. This journey served to provide her with a thorough education on how to successfully navigate cultural differences in order to create effective and cutting-edge global organizations. She worked in marketing, communication, and strategic business development during that time at several companies. She co-founded and served as director of marketing for a cooperative consulting firm in Asia before going on to open her own design business. She enjoys challenges, especially those that broaden the company's market.

  • Jonathan Teplitsky - Growth Director

Jonathan has over ten years of marketing experience at businesses including Amazon.com, Uber, and Accenture. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School. Additionally, he is the creator of a number of retail firms with a travel and technology focus. Jonathan served as an Army officer and oversaw relief efforts in Tanzania, Uganda, and Djibuti. His wealth of knowledge and dedication to serving others provide the Horizen team a distinctive perspective.

  • Kaspars Rekis - BD Manager

Kaspars is a specialist in management consulting and finance who has worked with Deloitte Transaction Advisory Services, the Bank of England, and a boutique consulting firm that focuses on the green energy sector. By advising many business executives and firms on how to define and carry out their business plans, raise and manage public and private financing, he has gained invaluable skills in project and financial management. Kaspars began assisting the project as a node operator and community member back when ZenCash was still in existence. Kaspars is dedicated to seeing flourishing economies, societies, and populations, and he constantly seeks out cooperative relationships.
